Self Respect : a prerequisite…

Self respect?? What a hackneyed topic to sermonise?? Just go on to decide for yourself….

Self respect is a one of the critical parameters to judge self and the others. It is imperative to live life in the society, let alone lead it. Now a days, people just seem to allude it and remain aloof of it. The modern life is bleaching it and people are getting bereft of it. Their callousness is letting them condone themselves for doing contemptible deeds and sedating their guilt. So should we just let it go just like that and blame the situation for it? No. It would mean living a life without a soul!! Need is to take commensurate measures to combat it, restore it and then enhance it. And trust me, emulating others won’t help. It requires an independent effort which can be procured only by yourself.

I have ruminated to refer that people are losing it because they are ambivalent about the good and the bad. They know whom to respect but not what to respect. And so how can anyone decide about the good and the bad, the right and the wrong, the true and the false? Today is the age of profit and loss. People are after influence and wealth. They want power. They want to secure their life because they know that not everyone is gifted with it. And this has led to the accretion in sycophancy and adulation and attrition in self respect. People are becoming officious to the person they want to influence and apathetic towards the needy.

Pondering over the topic, i thought of sharing one of my regular experience. I am a student and staying in the hostel. It is always amusing to meet and think of variety of people here. The college is privileged enought that we have an internet connection in our rooms for free. So the common way to kill time is by chatting on the net. Boys have this tendency of wasting their time on making e-female friends via chatting and other means. It is something which they love to boast about. And they become so credulous that they are able to fake themselves to any extent to impress the gals. Isn’t this a perfect example of selling your self respect to a perfect-stranger?

It is not that i am in a different orbit or some rebel to change the world. What i want to exhort is that we can always decide the kind of life we want to live. The situation makes you choose the way you should live life but not the quality of living it. It is just that one is more prone to succumb to the bad terms. All that is required is self-motivation. Motivation from the able people who respect themselves. If you decide to look for such people consiously, you will get atleast a few around you. All these people existed earlier but now you have got a vision to envisage them. And slowly it will lead to the inception of a new strength within which will reward you with its own maturity. You will feel a never before change in yourself to make you realise that you are invaluable. You can’t trade yourself for someone or something. Contemporarily you will also realise the value of others which you will learn to revere.

Moral : Respect is not materialistic; it has to be earned for self before giving it to others!!

Life just can’t get better than this!

Hello everyone,

I m doing engineering from one of the better colleges in India. I am in final year, final semester. When i had joined this college, i thought of coming to a place where all your limits were stretched to their fullest extents (and it was because of the painful strong academics). The first three years were one hell of a time. Sometimes, i had to convince myself that things will be better sooner or the later. The first three years were important because you had to keep up your scores with the others because they mattered during the placements and not even a single mark came easy.

Now in final year, the situation is overwhelming. Not only does all the junta in the class have a one job, but almost every deserving student has got a second job (the dream offer!! in our lingo). This means that i, who was dubious of getting the job (in my early days, and so was apprehensive about it), finally landed up with two job offers!! And so is the case with most of the students. Althought the inundation of academics has receded in the final year, the efforts that we are putting has decreased manifold, without having any significant effect on the scores (infact some are even scoring better). One good thing is that we are putting least of our effort and getting the maximum out of it. That’s what assurance can do to your life: make you stake. Earlier most of the junta who is staking it now) was not ready to risk their acads for they had a carrier to make. And now that they hav made it, everyone is ready to experiment and beat the system.

Aftermath of placements :

The best part is that we are making the most of this leisure time by not doing anything. Usually we spend it watching movies, T.V. shows, playing games (computer games i mean), chatting, surfing and making fun of anything we get in the hostel. It’s like this : you are enjoying watching movies (etc.) and ask yourself that how much time you have got for it. And the answer is hours? days? weeks? or months? (Stop it!!!) (and there was a time when we had to think of one day). And now it is like how much will you enjoy? Even the first class entertainment gets boring when you exceed the limits! So the quest for finding the new sources is going on!! It’s like limit fun tends to infinity!! (And some of your uncle/aunty might say : So have you thought of post graduation? and the answer you hear is OOPS! NOT now uncle; now is the time to DISCO).

Moral : Life just can’t get better than this, so make the most of it!!

Becoming human

Well bad people are not that bad afterall!! There may be times when these people will be doing all the things worth despising but i think that all this is doesn’t happen unconsiously. So there comes a time when, even though you just don’t want to retrospect and analyse your past, your conscience suddenly starts bothering you. This is the right time to become human again. It is because it is backed by the true desire of mind to make yourself more constructive. It’s only because deep somewhere you know that there are even better things to be done with your life and that you are not living upto the expectations of the self. This feeling is a driving force which has the power to produce results. No matter what people think of good and bad (and ofcourse keep on sermonising about it in your routine life), this resurrection of your conscience provides you a coherent insight of the right and wrong. And so now is the perfect timing to kill your guilt. All it takes is a few minutes of deep thinking which will show you the light at the end of the tunnel. The moment you start following your mind, all your vices begin to wane and you find an elevation in your self-respect.
And hence, for everyone, there comes a time for “Becoming human” and it is upto you to capitalise!!
